James 1:27: “Religion that God our father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
The name OrphanEndowment was chosen to confront the orphan crisis head-on. It is estimated by UNICEF that every day 5,700 children are orphaned. According to UNICEF’s definition of an orphan, there are over 153 million orphans worldwide. Not included in this number are the 8 million children receiving the basic care provided by orphanages. These estimates do not include children who are essentially living in orphan-hood:
Children who are living on the streets
Children who are exploited for labor
Children who are victims of trafficking
Children who a part of armed groups
So, the question arises, “Why do so many of the world’s orphans find themselves without a place to go?” Maintaining an orphanage that is a healthy, safe place for a child to voluntarily seek shelter is expensive. Many of the countries that have the greatest need do not have the resources or offer bureaucratic guidance to support orphanages that can actively seek out and place children into permanent homes.

The James 1:27 Foundation was formed in 2007 as a non-profit with the intention to provide for orphanages that are so overwhelmed with the cost of meeting the basic needs of the children they serve, they are unable to focus creating a path out of orphan-hood for the child: first into the house of our father, and if possible into the home of an earthy family.
Ending the Orphan Crisis
The only way to end the orphan crisis is to place the growing number of orphans in permanent homes. Providing for orphanages so the caretakers can invest their time and resources into forging a future for their children.
OrphanEndowment has set up an endowment as a financial foundation for orphanages all over the world that struggle to raise enough funds to cover their operating expenses. The endowment model allows the money that you give to the OrphanEndowment foundation to provide in perpetuity for orphans in need. As long as orphans exist, your financial gift will allow Christian founded orphanages to keep their doors open and model the love of our Lord to each and every child they wrap in their loving care.
